Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal is well-known as a base point to many well-trodden high-altitude teahouse treks in the Annapurna Nepal range, however little is known about the rich demographic of Pokhara residing in the outskirts of the city and its thriving agriculture. In recent years, a small number of backpackers and return travellers are choosing lowland homestay hikes in this region to escape from the touristy trails, gain insight into real Nepalese way of living while making a difference to the lives of ordinary folks.

Homestay treks reflect the traditional and simple lives of the people. You would not have the luxury of hotel facilities here, but you can expect some basic tourist comfort in the the well-preserved villages, fresh farm-to-table Nepalese fare and a warm shower. During your stay, you can explore the vincinity, pick up their language, make some new friends and learn about their daily lives. An authentic and enriching experience awaits you!

Since most of the men left the village for jobs, women are left behind in the villages to look after their families. Homestay initiatives are mainly run by women and they take active roles to make tourists feel welcome by providing good food, organising cultural events and maintain important tourist infrastructures to make homestay possible. Homestay gives them a chance to utilise their skills to support their families.
