DAY 4 : Acclimatisation day - Namche Bazaar–Everest View Point- Namcha Bazar
Maximum height: 3870m | 2-3 hours of walking
From Namche Bazzaar, you’ll ascend to the highest point of this trek-Everest View hotel viewpoint where you can get a very good view of Mt. Everest, as well as Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Thereafter, you’ll descend slightly to Khumjung Village, and stay here for the night.
DAY 5 : Namcha Bazar–Tengboche
Maximum height: 3860m | 5 hours of walking
You will walk downhill to Phunki Tenga (3,250m) for around 2.5 hours. Phunki Thenga is a cluster of lodges and a bakery by a wood-and-stone bridge across the river. From here, it’s a draining 2-hour steep uphill climb to Tengboche, a village scattered across a wide, grassy saddle below a crescent-shaped ridge covered by scrub pines and dwarf rhododendrons. The focal point of Tengboche is the famous Tengboche Gompa, the largest and most active monastery in the Khumbu region.
DAY 6 : Tengboche–Dingboche
Maximum height: 4410m | 5 hours of walking
The trail drops down to Debuche, crosses the Imja Khola and climbs through rhododendron forest past superb mani stones (carved with the Tibetan Buddhist mantra) to Pangboche (3,860m). The trail then climbs past Shomare and Orsho to Pheriche. Continue on along the river for about 30 minutes to the scattered houses of Dingboche (4,630m). Looking east from the village, you’ll see the snow-capped summits of Island Peak (6,189m), Peak 38 (7,591m) and Lhotse (8,501m).
DAY 7 : Acclimatisation Day at Dingboche
Like in Namche, this rest day is much needed to help you acclimatise. Your guide will bring you on an early morning climb to the viewpoint at 4650m.
DAY 8 : Dingboche–Lobuche
Maximum height: 4910m | 4 hours of walking
From Dingboche, the path climbs slowly along the ridge through the village of Dusa (4,503m). You’ll enjoy the outstanding views of the rugged twin peaks of Taboche and Cholatse above a desolate landscape sculpted by vanished glaciers. The trail then goes directly up the gravelly terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier for about one hour before you cross the ridge. You will ascend further and walk along moraine to the lodges at Lobuche (4.930m)
DAY 9 : Lobuche–Gorak Shep
Maximum height: 5140m | 4 hours of walking
Because of the altitude, few people sleep comfortably above Lobuche and many people start to suffer headaches and other mild symptoms of AMS on the climb to Gorak Shep. The first section of the trail from Lobuche follows the narrow gap between the glacial moraine and the mountain wall, past the turn-off to the Italian Pyramid. After a couple of short but steep climbs and a 45-minute traverse of the terminal moraine of the Changri Shar Glacier, you’ll reach Gorak Shep, a flat, sandy bowl at 5,160m, at the foot of Kala Pattar.
DAY 10 : Gorak Shep–Kala Pathar– Pangboche (3930m)
Maximum height: 5550m | 8 hours of walking
This is the highlight of the trek but cloud can roll in quickly, obscuring the phenomenal peaks. For the best chance of an Everest photo opportunity, you will start this trek as early as possible. The path to Kala Pattar climbs up the grassy ridge above Gorak Shep. It takes around 2 hours to scale the summit (5,545m). As you climb, the peak of Pumori looms dramatically ahead. By climbing 200m, you have placed yourself in front of the most astonishing views on earth – a 360-degree panorama of Himalayan giants from Pumori and Lobuche in the west to Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest in the east. Then you will head back to Gorak Shep and go downhill to Pangboche.
DAY 11 : Pangboche–Namche Bazaar (3440m)
6 hours of walking
You will retrace your steps down to Phunki Tenga, then climb the ridge towards Namche Bazaar where you deserve a celebratory meal.
DAY 12 : Namche Bazaar–Lukla (2860m)
6-7 hours of walking
You will make a steep descent from Namche to the Dudh Kosi. Once you cross the high suspension bridge, the path runs mostly level to Jorsale and then climbs to Monja. Thereafter, it’s an easy run through Benkar to Lukla. You can have a celebration at Lukla. Several bars in Lukla offer happy hour deals, pool tables and late-night drinking for trekkers to mark the end of their arduous trek.
DAY 13 : Lukla–Kathmandu
