Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square and Patan museum

Situated in the heart of the city, the Patan Durbar square boast beautiful architecture of temples and shrines although it is still in the process of reconstruction since the earthquake in 2015. The site was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument list in 1979. Nestled in Durbar square is the Patan museum which specializes in bronze statues and religious objects. It is considered the best museum in Nepal.

Swayambhunath Stupa

Popularly known as the Monkey temple, this is one of the oldest Buddhist Stupa in Kathmandu Valley. It lies on a top of a hill and is a perfect vantage point to see the whole Kathmandu valley. You can find the large statues of Buddha, monasteries and gompas and influence of Buddhism in this stupa. As per the mythology, the stupa sits on the same place where the legendary Manjushree had encountered a lotus in the valley lake.

Boudhanath Stupa

The largest Buddhist stupa in the world, this stupa is not to be missed when one visits Nepal. This important monument is regarded as the holiest place of worship and holds high value amongst Buddhist pilgrimage. The stupa lies on three layered stairs that gives a look of mandala.

Pashupatinath Temple

An oldest temple of Lord Shiva that holds a high value amongst the Hindu pilgrims, only Hindus are allowed to enter this temple. For others, you can enjoy the surrounding area that consists of  a crematorium. You can also see unique Sandhus – people who have rubbed their body with ashes and have dreadlocks.
